Frequently asked questions
ADHD, or Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition. For some adults, ADHD can lead to issues with relationships and social interaction. Studies estimate that between 2% and 6% of adults are affected by ADHD.
ADHD is characterised by difficulties with:
- organisation and time management
- following instructions
- focusing and completing tasks
- coping with stress
- feeling restless or impatient
- impulsiveness and risk taking
Your initial assessments take place during two video sessions with a clinical psychologist. Sessions usually take around an hour and include 45-50 minutes of client discussion, plus extra time for the clinician to complete their notes.
After the assessment you'll be provided with a diagnostic report which is also sent to your GP which outlines the outcome. This report includes any diagnosis and/or recommended treatment.
If you're given a diagnosis of ADHD and you'd like to talk about medication, a medication review appointment can be booked with a consultant psychiatrist.
Ongoing medication review appointments are usually with a consultant psychiatrist or advanced nurse practitioner.
Diagnostic reports can take up to 4 weeks to be issued after the ADHD 2 Assessment. Medication review appointments should not be booked until the report has been issued.
Appointments should be scheduled a minimum of two weeks apart.

You'll still need to book in for an initial 60 minute assessment with a consultant psychiatrist, plus follow-up appointments to review any prescribed medication. Just make sure you upload or email your diagnostic report and the referral letter from your GP when you book.
You must be seen for a follow-up appointment:
- two weeks after you start taking medication
- after a six week trial of an appropriate medication
- then every 4 months thereafter.
Yes, our psychiatrists and advanced nurse practitioners can prescribe medication where appropriate. But they can only prescribe medication after you've completed diagnostic assessment and physical examination with your GP – which includes a cardiovascular examination, heart rate and blood pressure check – to make sure you have no underlying issues.
We'll write to your GP advising them of the outcome of your assessment and requesting details of the physical examination, which you will need to schedule with your GP following your assessment.
Individuals who have completed the assessment process and have a confirmed diagnosis of ADHD can book a Medication Review appointment to discuss medication. Your initial Medication Review appointment will be with a Consultant Psychiatrist. If medication is deemed appropriate, initially a 2 week prescription is issued with another medication review appointment needed then to assess progress and discuss next steps.
It can vary; it depends on your response to the medication. Sometimes multiple medications need to be trialled in order to find the one most suitable for you.
As a guide, you'll need a follow-up appointment with us:
- two weeks after you start taking medication
- after a six week trial of an appropriate medication
- then every 4 months thereafter.
You'll also need a physical check-up with your GP every six months if you're taking ADHD medication.
Medication Review appointments are up to 30 minutes duration and can be booked via our website.
We can only see patients 18 years and older.
