Convenient RSV vaccine service 

HealthHero's RSV vaccination service is a fast and convenient way to receive a prescription for an RSV vaccine from an Irish-registered GP, to help protect against respiratory syncytial virus, a common virus that can make babies and older adults seriously ill.

• Complete an online RSV vaccine assessment for €49, which will be reviewed by a HealthHero GP.
• Attend your online consultation where (if suitable) our GP will issue a prescription for the vaccine at your pharmacy of choice.
• Book a appointment online with your chosen pharmacy, at a time of your convenience, to have your vaccine administered.  

The online RSV vaccine assessment costs €49, which includes the GP review and the potential prescription for the vaccine. Please note that payment for the vaccine itself and the pharmacy vaccination service is separate and paid directly at the pharmacy.

The RSV vaccine is administered through an intramuscular injection. You will schedule an appointment with a pharmacist to receive the vaccine after receiving the prescription. 

Once you complete the questionnaire, a GP will review your answers. If more information is needed, you may be contacted for a phone consultation. If the GP deems the vaccine appropriate, they will send a prescription to your chosen pharmacy. You will also receive a link to book an appointment for the vaccination. 

If you have a fever or are unwell at the time of vaccination, you should wait until you have fully recovered before receiving the vaccine. This is to ensure your safety and the vaccine’s effectiveness. 

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is a common virus affecting the lungs and airways. It can cause cold-like symptoms but may lead to serious complications such as bronchiolitis or pneumonia, especially in infants, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of severe RSV-related respiratory diseases. 

No, the RSV vaccine is not recommended for individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions (such as anaphylaxis) to any of its components. Pregnant individuals must also wait until they are between 32 and 36 weeks gestational age for the vaccine to minimise risks. 

The most commonly reported side effects include pain at the injection site, headache, muscle pain, and fatigue. These effects are usually mild and temporary. 

You will be asked about your medical history and any medications you are taking during the safety questionnaire. The GP will assess whether the vaccine is safe for you based on this information. 

If you have a history of allergic reactions to vaccines, including the RSV vaccine, you will need to inform us in the questionnaire. This will help the GP determine if the vaccine is appropriate for you. 

You can book your vaccination appointment immediately after the questionnaire is reviewed, and the prescription is sent to your chosen pharmacy. Availability of pharmacy appointments may vary. 

If the GP reviewing your questionnaire needs more details, they will ask for your consent to arrange a phone call to discuss any concerns before making a decision on prescribing the vaccine.
